Love you

We want to send a special shout out to everyone that
showed the Funktopus love this summer and inspired
us to keep taking it around. Your words were of
endearing love were absolutely appreciated.
We'll see you soon on this journey. It keeps going.....

Funkt love

North Coast!!

And after all that...we still have North Coast. The summers last stand....

As soon as we walked in we saw super spacey   ladies everywhere! They
were walking around through the city, swinging hoops, and saving souls
with their spacey eyes. The vibe was vibe-rant and people were
smiling left right up and down, dancing in the park. Dancing in the city.
There were a number of great performances Friday but was too busy
soaking in the scene to stay too long at any, Wolfgang Gartner and Lotus
were keeping it fresh and Sound Tribe after party was a long and raging
road into the abyss.

Saturday jumped off with a super energetic set from
Rubblebucket that peaked during 'Came out of a Lady' when
members from the band marched into the crowd playing their instruments
for a hype dance party communal style. Even though it started to rain
that couldn't keep New Mastersounds from makin it funky and taking
us all to London for an international rage! And the much anticipated set
from Break Science & Rjd2 of course did not let us down. Rj began the set
with some solo theatrics, just him, his jump suit, helmet, and crotch mpc
makin beats and injecting humor with phallas references to credit his beats.
Following a trip through the past as Rj played his classics including Ghostwriter
and The Horror, very nostalgic indeed. This was followed by a bunch of tracks
off Break Sciences recent album 'Further than our Eyes can See' which lead
into more from the Royal Family; Lettuce! Delivering an energetic hour of
funk and rage and ending on a commemorative note with Mr. Yancey the
J Dilla tribute, left us in the clouds, wanting more.
Rusko in one word: animal.

To bring Chi town together no other than the one man act with a sick
backing band; Common tore the house down. His band playing live
instrumentals from his old and new tracks with the voice of the Chi
speaking rhyme in its most raw form, brought the people together
to say 'if you feel free put your hands in the air' and they all stayed
up for the entirety of the set.

And Bassnectar of course ended the weekend with bass for your face.
Left the whole crowd with a ghost subwoofer in their brain playing
bass heavy beats on loop. I don't think their was much complaining...

It was great to be back where it all began for the Funkty; Chi town to close off
the summer festie season of 2011'. Thank you ragers across the land for
making it a summer that we will never forget!!

The Royal Family Affair

After a little rest post EF we headed east for the first ever Royal Family Affair!
We were excited after all the different festivals to go to one with funk, soul,
hip-hop, and electro all weekend. After we made it through the lush mountains
of Vermont to Stratton Mt we posted up ready to enjoy the weekend of music.
Friday kicked off with Sam Kininger Band to get it funky! Shortly after the
much anticipated Lettuce set began and hit full force from beginning to end.
After Lett took us on an inter-dimensional tour we came back to earth
for a super funky dance party with Chromeo where you'd be pressed to
find a person in the crowd not raging. After the music Funktopus started
blowin bubbles and bumpin tunes and kept it Funkty till the place shut down

Saturday was another amazing day of music with Medeski, Deitch, and Skerik
tearing the place down! An amazing fusion of jazz, funk, freakout, and Rage
to say the least left the entire crowd blown away. Following that Big G kept
is super Funky and Soulive followed with a great set. Playing a lot of their
oldies such as El Ron and Vapor then twisting up an ole' Beatles medley
that was one for the books! The Formula (Deitch, Shmeans, Coomes, Sam K
& others) put down a latenight set of hip-hop instrumental music. 3 hours
of dope beats, what more could you ask for?

The festival ended with a set from Dumpstaphunk and Royal Family Allstars.
Dumpsta put it down with Nikki Gillespie on the drums. But the Allstars
took it home, with special guests Nikki for a drum dueling version of 'Nyack'
that had my bones on fire and Hartswick, Skerik, Lalli, Bloom, and others
sitting in for a Royal Family Affair!!

All Good

After Electric Forest was All Good. We spent some time on the road only to end up in the MOUNTAINS! The setup was super space Japenessey as usual, which pleased my eye palette. Friday night I rolled over to shakedown and busted out some tunes for the fine folk of AG who were seeming to dig the Funk. The remainder of the weekend I spent mostly chillin on shakedown street playin tunes for the ragers all around. Some of my babies checked out Zach deputy which they said was amazing, Karl Denson even gnarlier, Primus insanity, and Warren Haynes epic! Wow I really liked chillin all night at this festival until Sunday morning and up until Sunday morning. Sunday evening I started playing some Grateful Dead to please Greg and Alex of Eden Rose, but when the sun went that that turned into a full out funk dance party with bubble poppin' all night to end the weekend!!

Next stop; Royal Family Affair

to be continued....

Electric Forest

Next stop was Electric Forest. It was great chillin in such a laid back & peaceful environment. We went to check out the Break Science set Friday night which was BANANAS! Reminded me of ritual lunar ceremonies with the Crystal Clans on the beach :) That night we stayed up until the sunrise, it looked like God made an oil painting the sky his canvas :)
The next day we checked out Lettuce! It was awesome, super funky. Possibly more funky than usual I wore my crown for the occasion. The rest of that day we strolled around, checked out String Cheese killin and then wandered over to shakedown and cranked out a couple tunes. Electric Forest was killer, first time there not going to be the last.

Summercamp

Greeting internet earthlings! This is our first official blog together and it feels...great! So I think it's appropriate for this first blog to recap what I've been up to all summer.
Well it kicked off with a jam in Chillicothe, Illinois called Summercamp. It was awesome. We got their early to land a spot in the back of woods where we were quickly greeted by hundreds of traveling backpackers who were surprised to see me, as I was to see them. They frequesntly took out their earth cameras to snap pictures of me which to my surprise showed me that indeed I am not shy, even though I blushed once or twice when some super spacey ladies snapped a shot. The woods were action-packed. Friday after noon I rolled down the street to check out The Main Squeeze rockin out and especially enjoyed their go at 'Last Call'. Later on that night I was crowded by a bunch of lazy eyed looking people in line to get birthday balloons but I couldn't figure out whose birthday it was? And why were they deflating the balloon decorations?
